Review - Advent concert 2 December 2017

“A wonderful concert of awesome music!”

Spires Music had a very successful Advent Concert on December 2nd at the United Reformed Church, Warwick Road, Coventry, and received enthusiastic praise.

“Superb!” "Fantastic concert!” “The programme was lovely” “Many congratulations!” “That’s the best I’ve ever heard Spires" “I’m so glad I came” “I was moved to tears” “I was most impressed with the standard of both the choir and the orchestra. For amateur ensembles it really doesn’t get much better”.

These were just some of the comments from members of the audience.

Spires made wonderful music, from the first compelling moments when the orchestra began with the instrumental “Synfony” from Handel’s Messiah, on to the indeed glorious “Gloria” of Vivaldi, and Bach’s Wachet auf! Cantata, interspersed with the delicate music and skill of soloists, right up to the uplifting finish with West Gallery carols.

What a special way to begin the season of Advent.

And the concert had an extra special ambience, not only from the warmth and beautiful acoustics of the United Reformed Church but as a result of all the different members of Spires who baked delicious cakes, served refreshments, and greeted people as they arrived to listen and made sure they felt welcome and were comfortably seated.
